Understanding the Craps Basics

Craps is a lot less confusing than you might think it is. It’s pretty basic once you understand the table. First things first, the table is actually mirrored. People are able to play from both sides of the table, so they’ll be identical. The good news there is that you only need to learn half the table. What you need to do is learn the layout of the table and the language that’s associated with craps. From there, you can wager just before the “come out” roll, decide where to put your chips, roll the dice and enjoy your winnings.

The two phases to the game are the Come Out roll and the Point phase. In the Come Out roll, you place a bet on Pass or Don’t Pass. This is where the shooter will aim to throw either a 7 or an 11. If those numbers show up on the dice, then the Pass bets win. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, the game is over and a new shooter takes the dice. When any other numbers land on the dice, that number become the “Point” in the game.

When the Point phase starts, the shooter needs to roll the Point number before a 7 in order for the Pass bets to win. If they hit a 7, then the Pass bets lose, and the Don’t Pass bets win. Those are the basics of the game and while there can be a lot more on offer with the rest of the table betting, you don’t need to bet there to make some real money.

The Strategies Behind Craps

Developing a strategy for craps is understand exactly how the game works. With craps online, real money is only a few steps away with some of the bets when you understand the basics. You should always try to avoid the Big 6 or Big 8 section on the table because it’s not as simple as just rolling a 6 or an 8. In fact, it needs to be rolled before a 7 is rolled on the Come Out roll, otherwise you lose. And even if you do win, you only get back even money on a win.

Classic Regression:

With this craps strategy, you need to wait until the shooter gets a Point. After that, place two wagers on the 6 and the 8, not the Big 6 and 8. After a single hit, ask the dealer to go down one wager on both the 6 and the 8. As a result, you’ve earned a small amount of money and can’t be taken by the 7 anymore.

Three Point Molly:

Using the Three Point Molly strategy will allow you to place a Pass wager, back it up by placing single or double odds on it, place a Come wager and then back that up too. When a Come bet wins, then you immediately place another, and then you repeat this process until the shooter rolls a 7. This means that your Come bet protects your original Pass bet, allowing to take advantage of a lucky shooter.

Anything But Seven:

In this strategy, wait until the shooter establishes a point. Once established, put two wagers on 5, 6 and 8 each, and then a single wager on the Field. The theory behind this, is that if the shooter keeps the dice for three rolls or more, you can earn some money, and if a 2 or 12 is thrown, you earn more. On average, a shooter rolls the dice four to six times before throwing a 7.

In general, the odds of craps will remain similar across casinos, but it’s always best to check exactly what kind of odds you’re getting when you decide to play.
